You need to get to Shetland and Orkney if you have never been, they are totally different islands with different vibes.
Shetland is harder to get to, but offers dramatic rocky coastlines and a plethora of wildlife and a Norse feel. Orkney is easier to get to and offers more of a rolling hills and farming feel, but also has some interesting coastal areas.

I was there with a good friend David Clapp, who is a talented photographer and also a talented musician. He might be running a photography workshop in Shetland in May 2026 and I will join him to help drive around the locations. There will be lots of landscapes to take photos and a variety of wildlife as it is nesting season.
Whilst we were exploring Shetland and Orkney, we grabbed some video clips and put them together in this short video, along with some of David's music.
